Franzen Comes Alive

Yay, Books! – January 28, 2016

January 28, 2016 · 4 Comments

In case you hadn’t heard, I love books. LOVE THEM. Here are a few book-related things I’m happy about today:

  • It’s less than one week until Alexander Chee’s Queen of the Night is unleashed on the world!
  • I spent the day in Boston yesterday helping judge books for the New England Book Show. It was so much fun! And really hard to choose – there were so many beautiful books! I’m looking forward to attending the show on May 3rd.
  • I recently learned that Marcy Dermansky has a new book coming out in the fall! I LOVE HER. Her novels Twins and Bad Marie are two of my favorite books. Plus, she is super nice and not afraid of me, which are two qualities I admire in a person. Her new book is called The Red Car. The cover hasn’t been revealed yet, so I made one while we wait.

  • Girl Waits with Gun is going to be a television series! Unlike most book adaptations, I think this one is a really great idea!
  • I received several amazing books in the mail, including a double dose of Emmas, Modern Lovers by Emma Straub (May 31) and Losing It by Emma Rathbone (July 19). I also got the first book in a new Lian Hearn series, called Emperor of the Eight Islands: Book 1 in the Tale of Shikanoko (April 26), and The Book of Memory by Petina Gappah (Feb. 2), and a bunch more amazing stuff that I am sure you will hear me mention somewhere. (I swear I’m going to update my book haul tumblr soon.)

That’s it for today. The books are calling me. Keep your blood in and your books out!

That cover is perfect. I’ll be surprised if it doesn’t look exactly like that!

Whooooa for some reason I assumed Queen of the Night came out in like March. Why was I so misinformed??
I’ve never heard of Marcy Dermansky, but I’m going to look her up on goodreads pronto. If her books are half as good as that book cover (which she’ll almost certainly use), they’ll be great.
