Check Out This Book Cover: Hystopia

January 14, 2016 ·

cover of hystopia by david means

I did a little book cover math. (The only kind of math my brain can handle, really.)   Hystopia by David Means. Two things: 1. This cover caught my eye immediately and 2. It made me think of Denis Johnson, one of my favorite authors. Both things make me want to read the book immediately. It's out in April from Farrar, Straus and Giroux. The description: "At the bitter end of the 1960s, after surviving multiple assassination attempts, President John F. Kennedy has created a vast federal agency, the Psych Corps, dedicated to maintaining the nation's … [Read more...]

cover of before the feast by Saša Stanišić

Before the Feast by Saša Stanišić (Author), Anthea Bell (Translator) THIS COVER. I would get this image as a tattoo in a heartbeat, if I didn't think it would make my tattoo artist insane. It's so intricate and gorgeous. It's out in June from Tin House Books. The description: "It’s the night before the feast in the village of Fu¨rstenfelde (population: an odd number). The village is asleep. Except for the ferryman―he’s dead. And Mrs. Kranz, the night-blind painter, who wants to depict her village for the first time at night. A bell-ringer and his apprentice want to … [Read more...]

cover of adios, cowboy by Olja Savičević

Adios, Cowboy by Olja Savičević (Author), Celia Hawkesworth (Translator) This cover makes me want to read the book immediately. A redhead in ripped blue jeans? I'm totally sold. The description from the McSweeney's site: "Dada’s life is at a standstill in Zagreb—she’s sleeping with a married man, working a dead-end job, and even the parties have started to feel exhausting. So when her sister calls her back home to help with their aging mother, she doesn’t hesitate to leave the city behind. But she arrives to find her mother hoarding pills, her sister … [Read more...]
