In case you hadn't heard, I love books. LOVE THEM. Here are a few book-related things I'm happy about today: It's less than one week until Alexander Chee's Queen of the Night is unleashed on the world! I spent the day in Boston yesterday helping judge books for the New England Book Show. It was so much fun! And really hard to choose - there were so many beautiful books! I'm looking forward to attending the show on May 3rd. I recently learned that Marcy Dermansky has a new book coming out in the fall! I LOVE HER. Her novels Twins and Bad Marie are two of … [Read more...]
24 in 48 Readathon Wrap-Up: Books, Books, and More Books
This past weekend, I participated in the 24 in 48 Readathon. It's where you attempt to give 24 of the weekend's 48 hours over to reading. You may be saying to yourself, "Liberty, how is this any different than any other day for you?" And the answer is "It's not." I LOVE READING, Y'ALL! But for readathon purposes, here's the breakdown of my reading. SATURDAY 12am - 1:45am: Read Grief Is the Thing with Feathers by Max Porter. Started The Relic Master by Christopher Buckley. ACCIDENTAL SLEEP INTERLUDE 3am - 5:15am: Finished The Relic Master by Christopher … [Read more...]

24 in 48 Readathon: Books? Check!
It's almost time for the first 24 in 48 Readathon of 2016! It's where readers dedicate 24 of the 48 hours in a weekend to reading, and tweet and blog about it, and root each other on while it's happening. I would be lying if I said I don't already spend most of my time reading, but having a dedicated block of time to read and connect with other readers is great. The book community is the BEST and the readathon is tons of fun. It's January 16-17, and there is still time to sign up! I also find it a lot of fun to designate books for the occasion, and I have finally … [Read more...]
Book Beginnings: A New Year of Reading
It's time to wipe the book slate clean and reset the count! That's right - it's New Year's Day. Or, The Day Everyone Posts This Song. Welcome to my new blog! My one resolution in 2016 is to post content to it two-three times a week. What better day to launch a blog than the start of a new year??? I have settled on my first read of 2016: Springtime by Michelle de Kretser. It's published by Catapult, a fabulous indie press that had a stellar start in 2015 with Cries For Help, Various by Padgett Powell and Mrs. Engels by Gavin McCrea (one of my 100 Damn Good Books … [Read more...]
